Littlehampton's most significant founder was Benjamin Gray, who apparently hailed from the Sussex town of Littlehampton. By 1892 a reporter commented that there was 'nothing 'little' about Littlehampton', which he described as 'the factory district of the south'. The brickmaking business endured most and the Littlehampton Brick Company is still a prominent industry.
