Pop 365. (89km NE Adelaide). See map on page 03?14, ref E1. Located on the Sturt Hwy at the point where the Ranges are about to drop away to the River Murray plains. The township was bolstered by mining and traffic from the River Murray. The first building went up in 1850 and there was then a heady period during which expansion was rapid as Truro became an important centre. Many buildings from that era remain. An important part of the economy early on came from the nearby Wheal Barton copper mine. Though there is not a lot left to be seen (apart from the odd piece of copper-stained rock), the site of the mining activity is quite close.
