Pop 1,689. (846km NW Adelaide, 71km W Ceduna). See map on page 06?14, ref D2. Small town in the centre of wheat growing area on the far west coast of South Australia. It is noted for numerous windmills extracting water from an underground aquifer. Wells were dug from 1868-1884, and in later years, windmill bores were sunk. 1963/64 was the last year that bagged wheat was transported from Penong, and the existing silos were built during the mid 1960s.
