The area is popular for bushwalking, scenic driving and the elusive and protected giant Gippsland earthworms. Established in 1887 and the centre of the black coal mining industry in the region. As a large coal centre, it reached its peak in 1894 aided by the completion of the railway line. At the turn of the century coal mining declined. FESTIVALS: Agricultural Show (Feb).
