Pop 653. (191km E Perth) Situated in the central wheatbelt. The principal industries of the town include wheat, wool, course grains and livestock. The town's name is thought to be derived from Wyalkatchem Tank, built by sandalwood cutters in 1881. Although not settled until 1904, the town has played an important part in the pioneering of grain growing in Western Australia.
