Pop 754. (125km SW Melbourne). See map on page 9?9, ref J18. Aireys Inlet, home of the Split Point Lighthouse. The area is rich in flora and has a huge state park right at its backdoor. The township was named after John Eyrie, an early settler to the area in 1846. Airey's Inlet had been known as a terminus for the Cobb & Co. coach service from Geelong for many years. In 1891 the State Government constructed the Split Point Lighthouse, still a prominent fixture today. The township then developed around this site.
