William Lindsay, the first settler, was granted a timber-cutting licence. Later pastoral runs were created. In 1869 the town was surveyed and renamed Lorne, after the Marquis of the same name. The Great Ocean Rd, during the 1920s-30s was built by ex-soldiers from WWI, to honour the dead.

ACCESS: Car via the Princes Freeway via Geelong and the Surf Coast Highway. Daily rail services are available from Melbourne to Geelong. Local bus services are available from Geelong.
