It's a good base from which to go skiing, exploring Kosciuszko National Park or casting a fishing line into Lake Jindabyne. The Snowy River drowned the original township when it was dammed. Most of the town as it now stands was built in the 1960s. The remains of the old town lie submerged under Lake Jindabyne - you can glimpse them occasionally in years of severe drought.
