Bright, nestled amongst pine and eucalypt forests, is a popular tourist location all year round. Located in the foothills of the Victorian alps, Bright an ideal base for visitors to the region in all seasons of the year. Situated at the junction of the Ovens River and Morses Creek. Its annual Bright Autumn Festival is the major event on the town's calendar. In 1853 gold was discovered, thus opening the area to thousands of prospectors. Alluvial gold disappeared in the 1850s and as a result this prompted quartz mining. Bright was named in honour of John Bright, an English, political reformer. Today, the timber, tourism, walnut and chestnut industries are important for the town's economy.
