It is on the shores of Wallis Lake. Fishing thrives as a commercial activity and many hectares of oyster leases exist. The swimming and surfing are highly regarded, particularly along One Mile Beach and south along the beaches of Booti Booti National Park. Forster first sprang up in 1870 with timber-getting, shipbuilding and fishing as the main local industries.
