Pop Part of Sydney. (5km SE Sydney) Kensington is a quiet residential suburb near Randwick Racecourse, Centennial Park and the University of New South Wales. The University is one of Sydney's major educational facilities. Founded in the 1950s it has built a reputation around its scientific, commercial and legal education and is also the home of NIDA, the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Originally part of a land grant in 1823 of 230ha. In 1889 a competition was held for the planning of the garden suburb of Kensington. The oldest residential section of the suburb lies between Randwick Racecourse and part of Anzac Parade.
