The Port's entrance is guarded by the islands of Faith, Hope and Charity. Throughout the year visitors may see dolphins, fairy penguins and sometimes the Southern Right Whale in these sheltered waters. Like other towns in the area, Dover's first European explorers were the French - Bruni D'Entrecasteaux and Huon Kermedec in 1792/93. Later followed the British and settlement. Main industries are fruit growing and fishing.
