Pop 1,122. (137km NW Adelaide). See map on page 14?14, ref D5. Situated on the east coast of Yorke Peninsula overlooking Gulf St Vincent and the largest of the peninsula's eastern coast ports. The area was first known by the European settlers as 'Clay Gully' or 'Parara'. It was later named Ardrossan after a town in Scotland. At the nearby town of Arthurton, the Smith brothers invented the famous stump-jump plough, which helped revolutionise agriculture. The ploughs were manufactured at Ardrossan and part of that factory is now a National Trust museum. ACCESS: Car via Highway One then the Port Wakefield to Edithburgh Rd.
